Metrics Explorer

The Metrics explorer lets you query any metric of your account without creating a dashboard or a widget first. Write a PromQL query, run it, and look at the result as a chart or as a table.

Open it from the Metrics entry of the panel sidebar, between Dashboards and Logs, or go directly to panel.bleemeo.com/metrics.

  1. Type a PromQL query in the editor. Autocompletion suggests your metric names and labels.
  2. Click Run, or press Shift + Enter. A plain Enter adds a new line, so you can write queries on several lines.
  3. Pick the time range with the period selector at the top right. The explorer shows the last hour by default, and offers the same periods as dashboards, limited by your metrics retention.

When you open the page without a query, it suggests example queries to start from, such as cpu_used, topk(5, mem_used_perc) or rate(io_reads[5m]). See Using PromQL and the PromQL reference for the query language.

The result has two tabs:

  • Chart draws each series as a line. To keep the chart readable, it shows at most the first 50 series; when your query returns more, a message suggests narrowing it with label filters, topk(...) or an aggregation.
  • Table lists every series with its labels, its Latest value and the time of its Latest sample.

Values are displayed without a unit, since the unit of an arbitrary PromQL expression is not known.

To zoom in, drag horizontally on the chart: the period narrows to the selected range.

The result refreshes automatically, using the same refresh selector as dashboards. Its Auto setting follows the resolution of the displayed period.

  • History lists the last 15 queries you ran in this browser. Pick one to run it again, or choose Clear history to empty the list.
  • The query and the period are stored in the page URL. Use the link button next to Run to copy a link to the current exploration and share it with your team.
  • Clear empties the editor and the result.

Several places in the panel take you to the explorer with the PromQL query of a metric already filled in, through an Open in Metrics explorer action:

  • the metric drawer opened from a status dashboard,
  • the event drawer of a status dashboard,
  • the row menu of the Metrics tab of an agent page, which also offers Copy PromQL selector,
  • the advanced PromQL field of the widget editor on a custom dashboard. This link opens the explorer in a new tab, so your widget changes are kept.

The Bleemeo mobile application also offers a Metrics entry in its Explore screen to run PromQL queries from your phone.
